Zoon van Hout a contemporary realist painter who lives and works in netherlands, is inspired by people and things that don't immediately pop into our minds as people and things; i.e. snakes, birds, flowers, pebbles, people walking on clouds, a stack of books, a tulip or rock. the "personal" part of this means he has to create an amalgam of these things. His paintings, furniture and even his socks are a symbol of the variety of a place and society, of the surroundings, and can be drawn from paintings, people, objects or even states of mind. he finds inspiration in nature, human existence and the nature around us and constantly tries to absorb the content of other people's perceptions. His paintings are artistic but at the same time must be listened to. For this reason his music is also musical. The words are only another instrument in this musical composition.
Zoon created numerous works, but perhaps his most important creation is THE WITCH. This very rare painting is accompanied by a description of the painting and also the oldest known print. The image itself is of a very mysterious nature.
The painting is divided into four primary sections and each section contains a series of lines which represent a different color. This is only the second known instance of these lines. It is believed that the green-blue on the left of the painting represents blue, the red on the right represents red, the yellow in the center represents yellow and then the white of the lines represents white. Other features of the painting include the fully-formed clay dragon sitting in a pottery bowl at the center of the painting which is also one of the most beautiful representations of dragons ever created.
