"Desk Dr Smoke"
Smoking was popular and even recommended by doctors. When I draw things like these caricatures, I try to push things to the right to make it clear that more is true than is often perceived, and to make it clear that women who have borne children often have other significant physical and mental challenges. What has truly made it easy for me to draw women and parenthood is this decade-long search to find my own next generation of children, so in my cartooning, I try to capture the highlights of that process.
The cartoons in this collection all have a serious message. Do you want your children to respect women and this country? Do you want your children to be financially free? Do you want your children to be intellectually free?*
