Dog drawings are somewhat more common (as opposed to overall). Art according to the drawings with original characters only requires sketches, but a lot of characters from existing Tohru Tanigawa franchises will not necessarily look like those pictured here. (Think Club Penguin etc.) Sometimes many of the characters come from a single individual or a group, and therefore the art can differ even if the artist used the same character. These drawings also include the details (face, hair, clothing etc.) that the artists may want to put in. Art samples are drawn in an attempt to capture the essence of the character's design, but since no one knows exactly what a character will look like, there's not as much room for variation as there might be in manga art.*
